01What is a covering, and how does it work on Equ'un?
A covering is the mating of a stallion and a mare with a view to producing a foal. It takes three forms: natural cover, where stallion and mare are brought together under a professional's supervision, artificial insemination with fresh semen, which is collected and then transported to the mare, and insemination with frozen semen, which is stored in straws. On Equ'un, the mare owner finds the stallion through the filters, sends a booking request, talks with the owner in the messaging system, then follows the whole record from their own space: the covering, the pregnancy checks and the birth.
02Does Equ'un suit every horse breed?
Yes. The platform's breed catalogue covers more than a hundred of them: sport horses such as the Selle Français, the KWPN or the Hanoverian, racehorses, Arabians, ponies, and draft breeds such as the Percheron, the Comtois, the Breton Draft or the Cob Normand. Regulatory tracking rests on the French baseline administered by the IFCE and on the rules specific to some fifty European studbooks. For a breed whose studbook is not yet described, the platform applies the country's regulatory baseline.
03How do I search for a stallion on Equ'un?
Search covers every criterion that guides the choice of a stallion: breed, coat and pattern, height at the withers, discipline, sire and dam lines, live foal guarantee, breeding method, price, regulatory tracking and location, including a search within a radius around you. You can save your searches to find them again easily on each visit.
04How do I list my stallion at stud?
Create your account, add your stallion with photos, pedigree and competition record, then open your breeding periods for the season. Your listing then becomes visible to mare owners, who can contact you directly.
05How does a booking work?
An interested mare owner sends a request from your stallion's profile. You discuss the details with them in the messaging system, then you accept or decline the request. Once the booking is confirmed, every step is tracked from your dashboard: the covering, the pregnancy check and the birth.
06How much does a stud fee cost?
Each stallion owner sets their own fees freely, shown on the stallion's page for every breeding method: natural cover, insemination with fresh transported semen, or insemination with frozen semen. Prices usually vary with the stallion's bloodlines, competition record and reputation. Payment is settled directly between you and the owner, with no commission taken by Equ'un.
07Do you take a commission on breedings?
No. Equ'un is solely a matching and management platform. Payments related to breedings happen directly between the stallion owner and the mare owner, off the platform. We take no commission.
08How much does the platform cost?
Every core feature is accessible for free, with no time limit. The Free plan caps volume only: one active listing, five photos per stallion, one photo per foal and no video. The number of foals you may present is unlimited on every plan, including the free one. The Pro plan, at €19 excluding VAT per month or €179 excluding VAT per year, raises the cap to three active listings, makes photos unlimited so each foal gets a full gallery, and includes two presentation videos per stallion. The Elite plan, at €39 excluding VAT per month or €365 excluding VAT per year, removes the caps on listings, photos and videos. VAT is added to these amounts according to your situation.
09What compliance support do you provide?
You keep your breeding booklet online, stallion by stallion and season by season. The platform then pre-fills your documents, ready to check, print and submit yourself: annual booklet, covering declaration (DPS), birth declaration and zootechnical certificate. These drafting aids cover the French requirements administered by the IFCE and the rules of some fifty European studbooks, among them the KWPN, the Hanoverian, the Holsteiner and the ANCCE. They carry an explicit unofficial-document notice: the official declaration is still filed by you with the breeding authority of your country.
10What happens if a mare does not conceive?
Re-breeding terms are set by each stallion owner in their own breeding conditions, for instance a live foal guarantee or a free return. After a negative pregnancy check, the stallion owner can open a new attempt directly from the record's tracking view: the new covering and the checks that follow stay in the same record, with the full history.
11Is my data shared with the IFCE or with studbooks?
No, never automatically. You generate the regulatory documents yourself from your dashboard, then you choose whether or not to send them to the relevant body. Equ'un never shares any data with a third party without an action on your part.
12How do I find a stallion to breed my mare?
Use the search to filter stallions at stud by your criteria: breed, discipline, region, stud fee and parentage.
